South Wales theme park asks professional musicians to perform for free

We are receiving reports that a popular South Wales theme park has been asking professional musicians to perform for no fee.

Instead of a fair wage, musicians would apparently be playing for “tickets, exposure to thousands of people and the possible opportunity to be on TV”.

Free tickets and exposure are not good enough justifications to ask musicians to work for nothing. Do you want free tickets? Who would you be exposed to that could potentially help your career? And what’s this about TV?

The job advert reportedly called for “family friendly” acts to perform at regular after-hours events across August.

If you are approached with this offer, the MU strongly suggests pointing them to www.worknotplay.co.uk and the MU Wales & South West England Regional Office for advice on what constitutes a fair deal for artists.
