“I want to be paid fairly for my work. Am I expecting too much?”

I found a client through a website that offers work/experience to students through third-party employee applications.

The ’employer’ is requesting a number of “cello improvisations” for €40 each. Each piece is to be 30 minutes in length. The expectation is that I send recorded, mixed, composed cello pieces through to the employer – all of which I do myself with the equipment and professional skills I have at hand.

I realistically expect a 30 minute recording to take a maximum of 10 HOURS of work to complete (including his revisions etc.). If it were to take me this long, mathematic estimation brings us to a general labour figure of €4 an hour. Nearly HALF the minimum wage!

To top it all, as mentioned above, he is expecting 12 of these 30 minute pieces – all of which he would own the rights to.
